The Big Island, Hawaii - Sept. 2017
We spent ten days on The Big Island, it was a great place for our first stop. We flew direct from Oahu to Kona, approx. 45 minutes.
We stayed within the Waikoloa Resort / Village, it's almost like a small suburb with lots of resorts and condo complexes, shops and restaurants etc within it. It's really lovely.
We used AirBnB and stayed in a privately owned two-bedroom apartment, it was huge and in a gated condo complex with a pool, spa and tennis courts etc and located within a golf course. It was about a 10 minute walk to the beach and the Hilton that's on the beach. Our place had bikes which I loved and Waikoloa village is just lovely to walk and bike around.
There are so many awesome things to do on the big island, waterfall hikes, volcano hikes / bikeride / heliride etc and also getting out on an din the water.
We actually din't do a lot, it was only our second week away and we spent most of our time playing in the pool or at the beach.
Pool - our complex has a lovely pool, but we also spent a lot of time in the Hilton Pools. They had a shallow one with a sandy bottom and beach type access that Poppie just loved and it was FANTASTIC in getting her confidence up.
Beach - there are some gorgeous beaches on The Big Island, our favourites were Waialea Beach (Beach 69) and also Kaunaoa Beach, they were close to where we staying and beautiful. Also to the left of the Lava Lava Beach Club, we walked up the beach, really beautiful and quiet too.
Turtles - we often just went out to the left of The Hilton, it's a rocky corally beach. But we got to swim with turtles !!!
Waterfalls - we only went to one The Rainbow Falls in Hilo. Super easy to get to, although a bit of a drive from Waikoloa, however because it is so easy to get to it was sooo busy.
